Poor Italian sales girl who (un)intentionally has caused such a storm in the media over Oprah’s shopping experience in Switzerland. Like the owner of the shop has argued, it may well be just a miscommunication rather than an act of racism, however..
this incident reminded me of my flight form London to Zurich a year ago. All the passengers on the plane were white but one man. And, guess, who was the only person of all the passengers who was stopped by the customs control?
Racism exists. Not only in Switzerland, of course. And sometimes in a very nuanced way.
I am not sure if Oprah at the end had to apologize for anything. As far as I am aware, locals in even such internationally known cities as Geneva or Zurich acknowledge that such a problem exists.
